Meet Our Athletes
Mikayla
Mikayla is an active young lady who enjoys horseback riding, swimming and riding her hand cycle. She is a social girl, with a ready smile for all who know her! She is a dog lover and enjoys school and hanging out with her friends. Mikayla received an Invacare Handcycle in August of 2013 as part of our equipment grant program. |
Aiden
Aiden received his handcycle at the age of 7. Aiden is a Boy Scout who enjoys being outdoors and loves nothing more than racing his sister around on his new bike! Aiden is a big fan or playing outdoors, camping and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Aiden received an Invacare Handcycle in September of 2014 as part of our equipment grant program. |
EricEric is a high school athlete who enjoys track and field and sled hockey. Eric is a member of his High School track and field team and also competes at WASUSA sanctioned events including the National Junior Disability Championships this past summer in New Jersey. Eric received an Eagle’s Nest Throwing Chair in January of 2015 as part of our equipment grant program. At NJDC he set a new National record in the U16, F56 discus! |
NyAshiaNyAshia is an outgoing young lady who enjoys all sports including softball, cheerleading and riding around her neighborhood on her handcycle. She is described as independent, outgoing and friendly by those who know her. NyAshia received an Invacare Handcycle in June of 2015 as part of our equipment grant program. |
CalebCaleb is a young man who enjoys performing, swimming and spending time with his younger sister. Caleb has performed in his school’s chorus and in his school musicals. Caleb was unable to enter his pool independently and we were happy to make a donation of $1000.00 to Caleb’s Journey to help make Caleb’s wish of swimming independently come true. Caleb received his swim lift in August of 2015. |
HaileyHailey is a determined young lady who enjoys being outdoors, kayaking, bike riding, playing softball and playing with her friends. Hailey is a friendly young lady with a smile for those around her. Hailey received an Invacare Handcycle in September of 2015 as part of our equipment grant program. |
ZacharyZachary is an outgoing, fun loving, social young man. He enjoys riding his bike while camping with his family and has a love of movie trivia! Zachary uses his bike to keep up with his siblings and friends and enjoy the outdoors. Zachary outgrew his Rifton Tricycle and we were happy to help him get a brand new one through our equipment grant program. Zachary’s new Rifton Tricycle will be delivered in December of 2015. |
DonovanDonovan has been racing for just over a year now and he has no desire to quit. Among his accomplishments include being named to the 2015 U.S. Paralympic High School Track and Field All American list. Donovan enjoys road racing and participates in many of his local races and also competed at the National Junior Disability Championships this past July in New Jersey. Donovan has requested an indoor trainer for his racing chair through our equipment grant program. His grant was approved at our November 2015 Board of Directors meeting. |
NicoleNicole is a determined young lady who enjoys being active. Nicole is new to the adaptive sports world and is beginning her journey with handcycling. She has enjoyed participating in a group that handcycles biweekly at a local park. To quote her mother, “Handcycling has given Nicole back the independence and athletic activity that she used to enjoy.” Nicole’s request for an Invacare Handcycle was granted through our equipment grant program at our November 2015 Board of Directors meeting. |
Chloe
Chloe is a bright, kind hearted young lady. She has played sled hockey, danced and figure skated. Chloe has wished for her own handcycle so that she can ride a bike with her family and friends. Chloe’s request for an Invacare Junior Handcycle was granted through our equipment grant program at our November 2015 Board of Directors meeting. |
Michael
Michael is an outgoing high school athlete. Michael has participated in track and field for the last 4 years with his school and this last year qualified for nationals for the first time, which were held in New Jersey. He met many new friends and is excited to start this season with his new wheels. He also has participated in some local road races, where he enjoyed competing. Michael also enjoys sled hockey and spending time with family. Michael received a pair of Corima Rear Four Spoke Racing Wheels in February 2016 through our equipment grant program. |
BostonBoston is a friendly, animal loving, bike riding enthusiast! Boston is very outgoing and he and his family are active members of their community. Boston wants to ride with his family and with the help of our equipment grant of a Rifton Trike he is able too! Boston received his equipment grant in February 2016. |
JackJack has been a member of the CNY Flyers Sled Hockey team for the past few years and has been playing sled hockey for seven years. He is a strong player, never afraid of going after the puck, or aggressively defending his territory! Jack dreams of being on the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey team. Jack’s father also plays for the CNY Flyers and both father and son enjoy being on the ice. Along with playing hockey they are working hard to bring a sled hockey team to Rochester, NY and hope to have it up and running in the next year. This year the CNY Flyers traveled to Fraser, Michigan to participate in the National Disabled Fest. Jack travels with his team and was awarded a monetary grant to help pay for the cost of lodging while traveling with his team to games and to the National Disabled Fest. Jack received his Adaptive Sports Opportunity Grant in February 2016. |
MiguelMiguel has been racing since he was six years old. His sense of humor is almost equal to his determination and commitment to his sport. Miguel participates in track and field, swimming and archery. He is a member of the NJ Navigators Track and Field team and participates on his schools track team as well. Miguel enjoys demonstrating his sport to others in order to raise awareness and participates in sports clinics that give others the opportunity to learn about adaptive sports. Miguel has qualified to compete as a member of the US team at the IWAS Under 23 World Games held in Prague, Czech Republic in track. We have awarded Miguel a monetary grant to help provide Miguel with this opportunity. This Adaptive Sports Opportunity Grant was awarded in May 2016.

JeremyJeremy has been participating in track and field since he was 4 years old. He enjoys wheelchair racing and has qualified in and competed at the National level for the past 8 years, and has qualified to compete at the National Junior Disability Championships in Madison, WI this year as well. Along with track and field, Jeremy plays wheelchair basketball, and enjoys road racing. Jeremy is a very determined and outgoing youngster, setting his sights on competing at IWAS in the next few years and also hopes to play for the U.S. Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball Team. In May 2016 Jeremy received an Adaptive Sports Opportunity Grant to help cover the costs of competition and travel to NJDC this summer. |
JordanJordan is an active young man who enjoys swimming and playing wheelchair basketball. Jordan has requested a handcycle so that he can ride a bike with his family and his friends. Jordan’s wish for a
handcycle came true at our August 2016 meeting. He will be receiving an Invacare Handcycle through our equipment grant program. |
ElizabethElizabeth, or Lizzie as her friends call her, is a long standing member of the Sitrin STARS adaptive sports program. She has been an active part of the wheelchair basketball team for over five years now. Lizzie has just realized that in addition to wheelchair basketball she has a love for the sport of Curling, just recently traveling to Minnesota to Curl. In August of 2016 Lizzie received a Per4Max Basketball wheelchair as a recipient of our equipment grant program.
